How Can severe Gastritis Be Treated?

For about 4 days, I have had extreme gas build up. 90% of the gas is belching, very frequently, about 5 times per hour. And to describe it, I belch like a sailor. I have been taking otc gas pills ( simethicone 125mg). Does not seem to be helping. And I cannot pinpoint it to any specific food.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the health problems you are going through.

Your symptoms of extreme gas build up, belching, are suggestive of possible hyperacidity issues of your stomach. Gastritis is to consider as well as acid reflux or ulcer.
Furthermore, if you have been using any medication recently (antibiotics); they can explain your symptoms.

Apart OTC gas pills (simethicone 125 mg), I'd suggest as following:
- increase water intake
- avoid using straw or carbonated drinks
- avoid chilly, spicy, oily foods and caffeinated or sugary drinks
- have frequent meals and small portions,
- chew up slowly, do not rush
- take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- take antacids after meals

If still no improvement, further tests are necessary including upper endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound and stool examination.

Wish fast recovery.
